Morocco

Morocco votes but the impotence of moderate Islamists may embolden the radicals

  • The moderate Islamist PJD has been the largest in parliament (27% after 2011 and 32% after 2016) but wielded no power

  • Impotently opposing Israel normalisation, commercial cannabis, electoral reform (which hurts larger parties like PJD)

  • Policies on fiscal deficit, youth unemployment, POLISARIO remain in Royal Court's hands regardless of 8 September vote
