After a roaring 2020, the medium to long-term outlook for the gaming sector looks better than ever. As the Metaverse draws closer, games are becoming platforms for socialising and other forms of entertainment, resulting in larger player bases who will engage for longer. Meanwhile revenue models are changing again, with advertising, user-generated content and free-to-play AAA titles all presenting scope for monetisation. Together these factors could help accelerate industry growth rates over time, with additional M&A offering support to multiples this year and beyond. We therefore see plenty of upside ahead, and would view any near-term weakness as a buying opportunity.
