Unilever Consumer Care: c35% yoy NPAT growth in Q4 CY22; CY22 profit rose by c39% yoy

  • This earnings growth is due to the one off gain of BDT 400 mn from the reassessment of past liabilities and obligations.

  • c35% yoy NPAT growth in Q4 CY22; CY22 profit rose by c39% yoy. NPAT increased by c35% to BDT 190mn in Q4 CY'22 from BDT 141mn in Q4 CY'21. Annual EPS stood at BDT 60.64 in CY’22 against BDT 43.80 in CY’21.

    This earnings growth is due to the one off gain of BDT 400 mn from the reassessment of past liabilities and obligations.

    Without this gain, CY22 earnings would be BDT 420 mn, implying a c20% yoy decline. The decline can be attributed to higher raw material and packing costs driven by BDT depreciation against the USD.

  • BDT 24/share for CY22; cash dividend payout declined from CY21. In the previous year the dividend per share was BDT 44/share (payout ratio of 100%). Dividend per share declined by c46% yoy in CY’22.UNILEVERCL has also declared a 60% stock dividend for the first time in its history.

    The company has stated that the reason behind reducing their cash dividend is to use the retained cash as capital for a BMRE (Balancing, Modernization, Rehabilitation and Expansion) project in the future.
